Departments

Research in the Department centers on the discovery and design of novel enzymes and metabolic pathways, as well as their transplantation and evolution in natural and artificial cells (e.g., for the sustainable conversion of the greenhouse gas CO₂ with artificial photosynthesis).

Research in the Department focuses on understanding how intracellular signalling networks are wired to allow bacteria to adapt and differentiate in response to changes in the environment or in response to self-generated signals.

Research in the Department of Natural Products in Organismic Interactions centers on the ecological function of microbial natural products using entomopathogenic nematodes and their bacterial symbionts as model system. 

Research in the Department of Systems and Synthetic Microbiology aims to elucidate structure and function of intra- and intercellular networks that control microbial behavior, to understand underlying physical principles, and to design of novel cellular networks.
