The Microcosm Earth Centre is currently accepting applications for an Independent junior research group leader (f/m/d)
The position is offered for a period of 3 years. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state of Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 15).
The Microcosm Earth Center (MEC) builds on the long-standing and successful partnership of the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology and Philipps University Marburg, which is supported by the State of Hesse and is modelled on the Centre for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO). The centre promotes up- and-coming fields of research and excellent young scientists in microbiology. In a collaborative environment equipped with state-of-the-art technology, all members work on the challenges of current global changes.
We are looking for an outstanding and highly motivated individual to further strengthen and complement our expertise in molecular, computational, synthetic, geo- or environmental microbiology, in particular through innovative organismal, ecological or sustainability aspects.
Tasks
- development of an independent and internationally visible research programme
- proposing solutions to urgent global challenges
- acquisition of third-party funded projects and application for sub-projects within our research networks
- active participation in research initiatives of the Philipps University Marburg, the Max Planck Institute and the joint International Max Planck Research School
- training and promotion of outstanding young scientists in microbiology
- Scientific services in research and teaching
The position will be filled by a temporary contract that is limited to a time period which is necessary to gain further scientific expertise (such as the preparation for a subsequent qualification period). Within the entrusted tasks the opportunity for independent scientific work to obtain further personal qualification is given. The limitation of the contract complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.
Profile
- completed scientific university degree (diploma, master's degree or comparable) and a doctorate in the natural sciences
- sound knowledge of contemporary life sciences
- experience in computational, synthetic, geo- and/or environmental microbiology
- communication and teamwork skills
